The Tower of Babel gets an update (without Google).

A translation without loss: Why this European service is so special

What if you could have a multilingual website without data-hungry tech giants or sky-high costs?
If you're running a website in 2025, you've probably seen two choices: Either you pay for a commercial translation plugin, or you use a ‘free’ service from Google, DeepL or Microsoft – where free mainly means: ‘pay with your user data’. But what if there is a third way? I found one: an open-source translation service of the European Commission, which translates your site without crossing your financial or ethical boundaries.

“Freedom starts with choice – also in translation.”

⁇  Privacy without compromise

In an era where even your font is causing choice stress due to data tracking, it's almost revolutionary to find a translation tool that none collects data, none places cookies and none Bringing content to Big Tech. The service, developed by the European Language Resource Coordination (ELRC), respects your content and your users.

“Privacy is not obsolete – it is a right.”

Free means really free here

No subscription models, no upsellfunnels and no disguised freemium constructions. The translation service is fully funded with public money and therefore really from all of us.
And what do you pay with? With confidence.

“Transparency is the currency of trust.”

How good are the translations?

The English output is ‘finely usable’ with an occasional curved sentence. According to some, the Ukrainian version appears to be ‘quite bizarre’. But I am curious about, for example, French and German. Languages that many of our clients identify with. Do you have a moment? Give it a try and let us know what you think.

“Quality is quality only when it touches your target audience.”

Why this is important

This tool is more than a translation service. It is a statement: that digital autonomy is also possible in Europe. That with open source and public resources we can really build alternatives that are safe, accessible and ethical.

“Technology is progress only when everyone is on board.”
