⁇ Nextcloud's breakthrough: The tipping point is now
“We are on the verge of a digital revolution. Nextcloud is no longer a niche – it is the future.”
In recent months, something fundamental has changed in the digital landscape of the Netherlands. Where for years Nextcloud was mainly embraced by pioneers and privacy-conscious organizations, a broader movement is now visible. Both the figures and the news point in the same direction: Nextcloud is breaking through.
According to Domestic governance More and more Dutch governments are turning to the German cloud provider. At the same time, the number of searches for ‘Nextcloud’ in the Netherlands has almost doubled in one year, with a notable increase since early 2025 – an exponential trend rarely seen in tech adoption.
⁇ Search behavior does not lie: Interest is exploding
“Data is the new oil – and the search volume is the plume of smoke above the fire.”
A look at the Google Trends data leaves nothing to the imagination. Since March 2024, interest in Nextcloud in the Netherlands has grown structurally. Regions such as Utrecht, Flevoland and Overijssel are leading the way. The upward trend in search volume indicates a growing awareness among both IT professionals and decision-makers.
The data confirms what I see daily in the field: Organizations are actively looking for alternatives to the big cloud giants. And Nextcloud offers exactly that: control, flexibility and European data sovereignty.
The Swiss Army Knife of Cooperation
“If you choose tools that match your values, you build better and more sustainably.”
Once you work with Nextcloud, you'll understand why this tool is so powerful. In my previous blog post “Nextcloud: the Swiss Army Knife of Digital Cooperation” I describe how the platform not only stores files, but allows full collaboration: video calling, shared calendars, tasks, encrypted chat – all in-house.
This broad functionality, combined with open source principles, makes Nextcloud unique. The pace of adoption we're seeing right now is no coincidence: The time is ripe.
⁇ A tipping point for SMEs – and a call
“Change does not happen by itself – but it does if we dare to choose together.”
We're at a tipping point. The acceleration has begun. And who gets in now will soon determine what our digital infrastructure looks like. That is why I call on SMEs to take the step. In my blog “From M365 to Nextcloud – who will help?” I make an open call to organisations and providers: Let's build a fairer and safer alternative together.
I am happy to help you in this transition – whether you are looking for advice, implementation or cooperation. And for existing IT partners and suppliers: Let's join forces.
⁇ Get moving. Get in touch.
“Nextcloud is not just software – it is a movement. Are you in?’
